Day 17 – You can’t score if you don’t take a shot

Several months ago I was perusing Beverage Industry magazine and I came upon the new products section. It is a regular feature in the magazine and it showcases new beverages from Juices and sodas, to beer and spirits. I noticed in the bottom corner I noticed a little caption that read,” To submit a product for consideration, contact: cernivecs@bnpmedia.com” I knew we would be releasing Eve’s Apple Pie Moonshine in a couple months so I cut it out and tacked it to my corkboard. submit emailIn November when I actually had a bottle in my hand I took a picture and fired off an email with a copy of my press release. All excited like a little boy waiting to show off his shiny new bike.

Now this is not the first time I have done something like this. I do it all the time and I get really good results. This little submission in a leading beverage trade magazine actually made it’s way into the New product section and as of yesterday we have received 6 inquiries from across the country since the magazine hit on Monday! This did not cost me a dime and I have gotten some great exposure. This is one of the things I am really good at, press. I have an uncanny talent for generating some cool exposure. My last venture, Wired Waffles had exposure on radio shows, the Today show, Shark Tank and Ellen. I got all this exposure with some things as simple as clicking here for more information. (how I got on Shark Tank) I tweeted Jenna Marbles of YouTube fame and she tweeted a waffle pic to her millions of followers and even put them in one of her videos. I write my own press releases and send them out directly and when I see it get posted somewhere like on Huffington Post I share that link and send the link out as a news idea story. All of this I do from my computer without spending a dime. These are simple easy things to get exposure and it has worked well. There are people looking for stories and news like this. Eve’s Apple Pie Moonshine made it in Seattle Weekly Magazine before Christmas in the annual gift guide and now this National exposure is just perfect.

These inquires from other states are just what we need to get some regional traction and exposure. Best of all they order by the pallet load! If I had not have save that email and followed through this would surely be a different blog today. It is certainly a good day when you see return on marketing like this because it takes time and it misses more than it hits. No, not every submission gets noticed not every press release gets noticed but, man when it does it is great! If you don’t at least try then your results will be predictable. No one will hear about your product if you don’t tell them. You have to be in the game to win it and you can’t score if you don’t take a shot, that I can promise. Today is a winning day for sure and it is because I take shots.take a shot

Stay tuned!
